Be a Volunteer for United Way!!
Thank you for your interest in volunteer opportunities. At United Way of Central Arkansas, we know your time is valuable, so we will do our best to help you find something that matches your interest, time and background. We have found that most volunteers want hands-on involvement with people and wish to be placed at one of our partner agencies in direct service.
If you are looking for a different kind of volunteer experience, we have several options available. You will enjoy the impact you make in your community by becoming a part of United Way. Please take a look at the right for all the options available to you.
Board Member
The United Way of Central Arkansas Board of Directors is the policy-making arm of the organization. It is composed of 22-25 members who serve three-year terms and are responsible for:
• Formulation of policies
• Organizational planning
• Administrative and Fiscal oversight
• Hiring of Executive Director
• Establishment and maintenance of guidelines for admission and continuing membership of agencies
• Allocation of United Way Funds
Resource Devel. Committee
The Resource Development Committee is comprised of board members and non-board members who meet at least monthly. The group provides leadership, fundraising, and teamwork skills and helps the resource development director plan and implement development programs. Components of resource development included but are not limited to employee campaigns, planned giving, corporate campaigns, leadership giving and marketing.
Company Campaign Coordinator
A company campaign coordinator provides leadership, direction and motivation for the employees within his/her organization. They help employees understand that their contribution directly affects people in here, in their community. They also ensure that all employees are:
• Provided with information, as well as solicitation materials
• Given an opportunity to contribute
• Recognized for their contribution
United Way provides a comprehensive training program each year to ensure Campaign Coordinators feel comfortable and confident in their role.
Loaned Executives
Our Loaned Executive Program allows us to use the expertise of local business’ employees to assist us in a particular event or with a particular task. The ideal participant will be eager, community-minded and capable of giving us a few hours each week, with his/her employer’s approval. The experience the employee will gain about the community in which we all live and work will be priceless.
United Way provides a comprehensive training program each year to ensure Loaned Executives feel comfortable and confident in their role.
Site Visit Team Members
Once the money has been raised, it then needs to be carefully distributed and volunteers help to accomplish this task to ensure that limited dollars are well invested in our community. Site Visit Team members receive training then visit programs that are requesting funds. They then make funding recommendations to our board members. This takes place annually in late winter/early spring.
Special Events Coordinators
Throughout the year there are several opportunities for us to get our message out to groups of people who we might not otherwise see. Some examples are business shows and Toad Suck Daze. There are also several events held in conjunction with the employee campaign, such as the Annual Meeting and UWbies Gala. Those interested in helping with such an event can determine their level of involvement, from coordinating an entire booth to just helping with decorations for an event.
