Week of Action

UWCA's Week of Action was inspired by United Way Worldwide's initiative, Day of Action.  Each year Day of Action is held on June 21st because it is the longest day of the year, which means there is more daylight to make an impact on your community.  The goal of this initiative is to mobilize people to get involved through volunteering and advocacy to help make a difference right outside their back door.

Week of Action History

In 2010, United Way of Central Arkansas formed a committee comprised of community members to plan and execute UWCA's first-ever Day of Action.  The goal was simple: 1) Educate the community about the opportunities to get involved, and 2) recruit a group of roughly 10-20 individuals to give one hour of their time towards improving lives in Central Arkansas on June 21st.  As the community committee contined meeting, planning and spreading the word, Day of Action grew...and grew...and grew!

What began as a simple goal to mobilize a few volunteers, quickly turned into a community united in making a difference.  A flash mob kicked things off at the busiest intersection in Conway.  A celebration was held on June 21st to raise awareness of the needs of the community.  One day turned into five days. Two or three projects turned into thirty-five projects.  Twenty volunteers turned into 375 volunteers.  And ten to twenty volunteer hours turned into over 1,100. Thus, Week of Action was born!

Join the Movement

Week of Action volunteers are individuals and groups from local companies, organizations, and the community.  All ages, from youth to seniors, are welcome to participate in this event.  There is no action too large or too small to count. So do something.  Any little something.  Just do something.

Be sure to view the Project page to track the progress throughout the Week of Action!
