UWCA Funding Criteria
 

There are some basic requirements that any agency wishing to apply for funding from United Way of Central Arkansas must meet. They are:

  • Be incorporated as nonprofit
  • Have tax exempt status under section 501(c)3 of the IRS code
  • File IRS form 990 if required
  • Provide a human service to residents of Faulkner County
  • Have an active local board of directors or advisory board
  • Have a policy of non-discrimination (board, staff, volunteers and clients)
  • Procure and maintain valid and adequate policies of insurance regarding fire, loss, casualty, indemnity, and general and professional liability if applicable
  • Pay all applicable taxes in a timely manner
  • Keep all applicable certifications current
  • Have written policies on board membership and governance
  • Have at least one paid employee
  • Have a Certified Public Accountant conduct an annual audit. Such audits must be completed in a timely manner and one original must accompany the agency’s program funding application each year. The audit must include a management letter and if need be, an action plan for rectifying any deficiencies noted in the management letter.

 

Proof of all items mentioned must be provided to United Way of Central Arkansas by any agency that was not a partner agency the previous fiscal year. This information will be due on the same day as funding applications are due.

For existing agencies, all items must be made available to United Way in a timely manner upon request, with the exception of the audit, which must be supplied by all agencies each year of member status.

 

NATURE AND SCOPE OF SERVICES

In order to be eligible for funding, a program must provide human services in the field of health, education, income or emergency assistance.

Programs not eligible for funding through United Way include those:

 

  • Which are primarily political in nature
  • Which provide services limited to members of a particular religious group
  • Whose primary services is the mandated responsibility of a governmental agency serving the entire community
  • Which primarily offer basic educational programs that are the responsibility of the public education system
  • Which exist as a forum for the presentation of cultural or artistic achievements
